Made with drywall and acrylic paint, on pinewood
"Pulse" is one of my favorite pieces. I wanted to channel inspiration from Jackson Pollock, an accomplished abstract artist who used drip painting and other tools to incorporate himself into his work. For this artwork, I did not want to have a subject or an image, but I wanted to evoke a feeling. At the time, I wanted to convey my stress and anxiety to the viewer, but the ironic part was that throughout making it, I felt it served as a catharsis, helping me feel peaceful whenever I worked on it. When I asked people how they felt when looking at it, they told me they could feel excitement, anger, frustration, energy, or bloodthirst. The different interpretations of the work allows me to embrace the vagueness of the piece and complexity in something that was so simple to make.
