We chose 3 books to explore from D.H. Hill library's oversized section and selected images that intrigued us. Our job was to create GIFs that made the books come alive. All the GIFs' images chosen were from the book, First Choice: Leading International Designers Select the Best of Their Own Work, edited by Ken Cato.
The second part of the project was to combine imagery from four books to create a visual narrative. I wanted to create something abstract and compelling, featuring human body parts that draw the viewer's eye through the sequence. Below is the summary of narrative called "The Search",
From ancient design forms to the futuristic patterns of the present, design work has become increasingly deeper in meaning over time. Every pattern, shape and symbol is designed with a certain message in mind, and as humans we intuitively search for that meaning.
We humans, being egotistical creatures, find ways to hide parts of ourselves in our work—especially the physical form. This series of compositions, made of language, art, and design, shows how searching for the human form is innate.
This story is a distortion of old and new designs, creating a sequence of compositions that will hide figures or human features.
This project was meant to cultivate an appreciation for books that were not used or touched for a long time and re-create their stories more visually and kinetically.
